Applications are now being accepted for an Environmental Specialist / Sr. Environmental Specialist in the Environmental Department at the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) in the Boise, Idaho area. This is a non-exempt position with a hiring range of $27.10 – $36.30 per hour, DOQ.

Environmental Specialist / Sr. Environmental Specialist applies environmental knowledge and skills to monitor, analyze, and report activities related to District’s NPDES MS4 Permit monitoring program.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent leads the District’s Stormwater Laboratory activities including: splitting and preserving samples, bacteria sample analyses and reporting (IDEXX Method); cleaning and preparing sampling equipment; maintaining equipment and supplies; developing, implementing, and training others to assist in laboratory standard operating procedures; developing appropriate QA/QC procedures for work performed, and maintaining a properly functioning laboratory based on best practices. May work after standard hours, as needed, to address sample collection and method holding times.
  • The incumbent applies technical environmental and drainage-related knowledge and skills to implement the Dry Weather Outfall Screening Program and may assist with wet weather monitoring and pollution reduction activities as necessary.
  • Performs field investigations of the District stormwater systems and maintains storm drain outfall inventory and attributes.
  • Prepares annual NPDES reporting documentation and maintains documents.

Qualifications:

Environmental Specialist:

  • Requires knowledge of laboratory practices, water quality monitoring principles and environmental sampling protocols, quality assurance and control techniques, and sampling plan design, development, and implementation;
  • Requires knowledge and understanding of watershed delineation, storm drain investigation, pollutant source tracing investigations, and mapping;
  • Must possess a valid Idaho driver’s license; and
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, physical, biological science or related field is preferred OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities may be acceptable.

Sr. Environmental Specialist:

  • The Sr. Environmental Specialist requires a minimum of 3 years of proven experience and considerable knowledge in the key skills and abilities listed above.
  • The Sr. Environmental Specialist may supervise the work of a student intern.
