Nevada Conservation Corps (NCC)
Opportunities for those who wish to volunteer on our crews, join the state's largest AmeriCorps program, and gain valuable field experience while working on habitat improvement, restoration, and recreation projects.

  • 2010 Sustainable Forestry Team Member Spend a year working and camping in some of the South-west’s premier natural areas. Serve alongside AmeriCorps members from across the country while making a lasting contribution to the natural heritage of the southwest. The Sustainable Forestry Team (SFT) will work alongside con-servation corps throughout the western US while gaining valuable field experience working to reduce hazardous fuels, restore habitat, and remove invasive trees. Location: Reno, NV. Rate of Pay: $13,563 living stipend + $4,725 education award. Timeline: January 11, 2010 – December 23, 2010.   • 2010 Winter to Summer Restoration Team Member  Spend your winter and spring working and
    camping outside at some of Nevada’s premier natural areas. Serve alongside international volunteers and college students from across the country while making a lasting contribution to Nevada’s natural heritage. Gain valuable field experience while working on habitat improvement, restoration, and recreation projects with the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, and local and state agencies. Location: Las Vegas, NV. Rate of Pay: $6,775 living stipend + $2362.50 education award. Timeline: January 11, 2010 – July 1, 2010. Research Associate Program
The Great Basin Institute's Research Associate program provides research opportunities for recent college graduates, graduate students, or experienced professionals looking to begin or enhance a career in environmental management, conservation, stewardship, and other related fields. The Institute focuses on conservation and management of the inner-mountain west, with special emphasis on the Great Basin and Mojave Deserts, as well as the Lake Tahoe Basin.   • Desert Tortoise Field and Telemetry Technicians The desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) is federally listed as a threatened species north and west of the Colorado River under the Endangered Species Act. The focus of the desert tortoise line distance sampling (LDS) monitoring program is to collect data that will allow researchers to estimate population density of these animals in the eastern portion of their range. LDS monitoring occurs during April and May to coincide with the peak in the desert tortoise activity season. Field training will require participation in a rigorous 4-week program during which both telemetry and field technicians will be required to demonstrate proficiency in backcountry wilderness field skills, 4WD vehicle operation, the use of GPS, topographic maps, and PDA technology. In addition, all technicians will be further field tested on their ability to follow monitoring protocols thoroughly and precisely.Location: Las Vegas, NV. Rate of Pay: $4,650 living stipend + $1250 education award. Timeline: March 15, 2010 – May 28, 2010.
