Ferry Beach Ecology School, a residential EE center on the coast of Maine, is looking for creative, enthusiastic individuals to lead lessons to ecosystems such as coastal forests, beaches, tide pools, and salt marshes.

Naturalists are responsible for a teaching group of approximately 10 students (3rd-8th graders) for three lessons every day, with some shared supervision of students between and after lessons, plus some general maintenance of the site and program. FBES emphasizes dynamic teaching methods, such as the use of ecological skits, effective props, and hands-on activities.

All FBES Staff Naturalists are given a week of training prior to teaching children, which includes training in the general knowledge of coastal ecosystems, basic ecology, and the methodology of teaching children experientially in the out-of-doors. Although sample lesson plans are provided, naturalists are encouraged to be creative and to develop their own lesson plans and activities.
