EESI's Energy and Climate program seeks a highly qualified applicant for an advanced internship that involves working closely with program staff as well as independently on a number of focused and cross-cutting projects related to energy, environment, and climate change. The ideal candidate will have or be in the process of obtaining an advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in a field directly related to: climate change science, technology or policy; and/or renewable energy and energy efficiency technology, markets, or policy. Applicants without an advanced degree but with demonstrated skill and experience in these fields will also be considered.
EESI recruits advanced interns throughout the year. Although these positions are unpaid, EESI may cover some metro transportation benefits. EESI internships offer invaluable career benefits and opportunities and may also be used for undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate credit.
EESI relies upon interns to provide substantive help to advance our environmental policy agenda. In return, interns gain significant insight into the workings of Congress and the federal legislative process, knowledge of significant environmental and energy issues, and an understanding of a non-profit organization. Through EESI coalition building with other organizations, interns will witness how environmental and energy issues develop within the public policy arena.
Intern Responsibilities
* Observe Congressional hearings, other legislative activities and scientific and policy briefings and share observations with staff verbally or in writing
* Quantitative policy research and analysis, including budget, appropriations and current and upcoming legislation
* Assist with Congressional briefing development on climate change, renewable energy, energy efficiency science, technology, and policy
* Research and draft Climate Change Newsletter articles
* Research and draft program and legislative reports (fact sheets, white papers)
* Assist with outreach and logistical preparation of EESI sponsored Congressional briefings
* Identify, monitor and report on relevant science, technology and policy issues
* Assist with Energy & Climate program planning
* Project-related administrative tasks as necessary
The Energy and Climate Policy Internship requires a commitment of 30-40 hours per week for 10-15 weeks. Longer internships may be considered. Please specify the time period during which you seek to intern. Citizens of any nation may apply.
